The Legend of Mami Noodles

The Mami Noodles' creation is generally attributed to Ma Mon Luk, a Chinese immigrant to the Philippines who began selling noodles served with chicken broth in Binondo, Manila during the 1920's. Ma originally called his dish "gupit", after the Tagalog word for "cut". Later, Ma decided to call it "Ma Mi", which literally means, "Ma's noodles". Unfortunately, Ma did not have the name patented. Soon, imitation noodle soups sprouted with a name that was, personally, his.
